Solar Topps is seeking to hire for a permanent full time position for a Database Architect in our Phoenix location (not remote).

The role of a Database Architect is critical in overseeing, enhancing, and upgrading our enterprise services, software, and hardware, with a focus on database management. They are responsible for staying on top of the latest trends and technologies in the field and identifying the areas that can improve business processes and optimize database performance. They are responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the database system to meet the organization's needs. They play a critical role in ensuring data integrity, performance, security, and scalability.

The ideal candidate should possess a degree in computer science or a related field and have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in IT/software products specifically in the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) field, with proficiency in database skills such as data modeling, database design, performance optimization, query tuning, and data security.

Key Technical Skills Required
  • Database Design: A strong understanding of database design principles is essential. This includes entity-relationship modeling, normalization, and the ability to translate business requirements into a well-structured database schema.
  • Database Management Systems (DBMS): Proficiency in working with popular DBMSs like Oracle, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server and NoSQL Database such as MongoDB or Cassandra. Knowledge of the specific features, strengths, and limitations of different database systems is crucial for making informed design decisions.
  • SQL and Query Optimization: Expertise in SQL (Structured Query Language) is a must. Candidate should have a deep understanding of complex SQL queries, indexing strategies, query optimization techniques, and the ability to tune the database for optimal performance.
  • Data Modeling and Data Warehousing: Experience in designing data models for operational and analytical systems is a must. Knowledge of data warehousing concepts, such as star and snowflake schema design, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, and dimensional modeling, is important for building effective data warehouses.
  • Performance Tuning and Optimization: The ability to analyze database performance issues and optimize the system for improved speed, scalability, and reliability is crucial. This includes optimizing query execution plans, indexing strategies, caching mechanisms, and database configuration settings.
  • Security and Data Privacy: Understanding of database security principles and best practices is very important. Knowledge of authentication, authorization, data encryption, and compliance regulations (such as GDPR or HIPAA) to ensure data privacy and protect sensitive information.
  • Data Migration and Integration: Experience in migrating data between different database systems or versions is a must. Knowledge of data integration techniques, ETL tools, and data synchronization methods is valuable for managing data across multiple systems.
  • Cloud Database Services: Familiarity with cloud-based database services like Amazon RDS, Azure SQL Database, or Google Cloud Spanner is a major plus. Understanding how to leverage cloud platforms for database scalability, high availability, and disaster recovery is pivotal.
Communication Skills
  • The candidate will work closely with developers, system administrators, and other team members. Thus strong verbal and written communication (in English) and collaboration across multiple departments is essential for understanding requirements, explaining technical concepts, and working effectively in a team environment.
Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting Skills
  • Candidate must have the ability to identify and resolve complex database issues, such as performance bottlenecks, data corruption, or system failures. A strong problem-solving mindset and analytical skills are crucial for troubleshooting and resolving database-related problem.

Educational Background
  • BTech, BE, BCA, MTech and MCA would be preferred from a recognized, on-campus (not online) university.
  • Computer science or software development education is a MUST.
