The title of this post is one of the most common refrains we hear from customers. Another is “Well, why isn’t everyone doing this then?”

The Evolution Of Solar Pricing

Solar has changed significantly in the last four years and continues to evolve at a rapid pace. One of the biggest changes has been the pricing. Back in 2008, seven dollars a watt and higher was the norm for pricing on solar electric systems. Now, prices have dropped down to around three dollars and fifty cents a watt.

Manufacturers have been able to cut their prices due to increasingly higher volumes of production. Installers have been able to reduce their prices due to a higher volume of customers.

Solar Game Changer

One of the most explosive changes in the solar industry has been the advent of solar leasing. It was an absolute game-changer in terms of making solar affordable to the average person.

Solar leasing itself has changed significantly in a relatively short amount of time. Initially, solar leases would leave homeowners upside down in terms of payments, that is, if your electric bill averaged $150 a month, you would have been looking at a lease payment at least ten percent higher or $165. The next change was a significant decrease in the pricing, but with attached annual escalation. With attached annual escalation, you paid less for the solar, saving 10 to 15 percent initially, but your payments would increase on a regular basis at a rate of three to four percent per year.

The next major change was a further reduction in pricing and the appearance of sensible, fixed payment solar leases, which would remain the same even if the cost of electricity skyrocketed. This fixed payment model has been incredibly successful. Although, many companies are still using the escalation-based leases to make their initial costs seem lower.

One of the main difficulties with using an escalator is that it is tough to predict just how high utility rates will increase in the future. It could very well be possible that the homeowner gets stuck with a lease payment that ends up exceeding their electric bill. It also certainly wouldn’t make the sale of a home any easier if you have to convince a buyer to take on 12+ years of ever-escalating lease payments.

Zero-Down Solar Lease Advantages

One of the biggest advantages of a zero-down, fixed monthly solar lease is being able to lock in an affordable energy budget for the future. With the pricing available today, a homeowner can save $500, $1000, even $2000 a year off their current electric bill, and as utility rates rise, your savings will only continue to go up.

A major advantage of leasing is that the solar panel system is fully insured and protected with a warranty for the entire 20 years. If there are problems with the solar system, it becomes the leasing company’s responsibility to make any necessary repairs.

Solar Power Production Guarantee

There’s also another modicum of security provided via the power production guarantee that promises a certain amount of production for every year of the lease, otherwise you will be compensated accordingly. If you sell your home, the lease is fully transferable and unlike most other solar leases, the SunPower lease, that Solar Topps offers, can be bought out at any time.

Solar Lease Benefits With SunPower

Another major advantage of this lease is that it is coming from the same company that is providing the solar panels – the most efficient panels on the planet.

Because SunPower is using their own solar panels, there is no middleman, and hence the pricing on this lease is tremendously improved over that of traditional solar leasing companies that have to go out and purchase panels from a manufacturer or wholesaler.

The SunPower lease is only available through approved SunPower dealers who have received extensive training and are subjected to a stringent quality control process to ensure that customers are not only receiving the highest quality in solar panels in the world, but also the most professional and durable solar installations possible.

While the leasing process can seem complicated, and people often question how the pricing can be so attractive, the simplest way to describe it is that the leasing company, in this case SunPower, takes all the available incentives along with depreciation, which is not available to residential customers, and then passes on a great deal of savings in the form of a fixed monthly payment. The homeowner then can derive the benefit of solar, not only without any upfront cost, but with an actual reduction in their annual expenditures on electricity over the long-term.

Huge Savings With A SunPower Zero-Down Solar Lease

In the end, the homeowner gets a chance to stabilize their electric bills, and for example, can turn $160 worth of electricity into a $90 lease payment, saving $600 plus per year – and substantially more down the road. In return SunPower has tax credits that can be utilized by its various financial partners and is able to increase its volume, thus dropping their cost per unit and setting themselves up to be more competitive in the future when today’s current solar incentives are long gone. Everyone is getting something out of the deal and while savings can vary, most people are pleasantly surprised at the considerable reduction they can see in their current utility bills. What could you do with an additional $500 to $2000 per year that you didn’t hand over to the utility company?

There are no gimmicks or hidden costs. Everything is spelled out in the detailed SunPower lease quotation. The only major requirements are being the owner of the residential property and being able to satisfy the minimal credit score threshold. Otherwise in a typical installation, all the costs are taken care of and the homeowner isn’t required to make any payments until after the system has been fully installed and commissioned.

Every household varies in their needs and utility demands, the only way to know for sure if solar is something that would make sense for your home is to get a free Solar Topps leasing quote today.

Solar Topps features a no-hassle philosophy; if you don’t like what we have to offer, you won’t be further disturbed … but you will at least have learned more about the process and overall pricing going forward.

Get Solar For $0 Down And Save Money On Your Electric Bills!

Solar Topps offers the best pricing and the greatest value on solar in Arizona today.

Solar Topps can offer savings up to 50 percent on your electric bills with a zero-down solar lease. Savings will vary based on utility provider and general location, but you will get the absolute best value from Solar Topps.

Solar Topps’ solar leases feature fixed monthly payments and the ability to buy the lease out – something most solar leases do not offer.

Solar Topps promises to be Arizona’s lowest priced solar power and installations leader with the best quality solar panels (SunPower 20.1 percent Efficiency) on the market and the highest installation standards in the industry.

If you can find a better price on a comparable solar electric system, Solar Topps will be more than happy to match it and beat it by at least $500 on either a solar lease or a solar panel system purchase.

Benefits Of A Zero-Down, Fixed Payment Solar Lease

Solar Topps’ zero-down leases do not increase in cost annually. Having annual increases to your lease payment is no different than the current increasing rates that are seen with your existing utility bills. With Solar Topps, the amounts of your first and final monthly lease payment are exactly the same. The difference between a fixed payment and one that increases yearly can be more than $10,000 during the life of a lease, not to mention the potential difficulty of trying to transfer an ever-escalating solar payment should you decide to sell your home.

Because some solar leases have escalators as high as 4 percent when the traditional rate of increase for electricity is just under 3 percent, you risk the possibility of ending up with your lease being upside down, that is, paying more for solar than you would be paying for electricity. To avoid that hassle, demand a flat, fixed-payment solar lease.

Fixed-payment solar leases are much more favorable to the consumer. Leases with annual escalators are much like variable rate mortgages, in that they are typically far more favorable to the banks underwriting these programs.

Solar Topps Solar Lease Provided By SunPower®

The primary leasing program Solar Topps offers is provided by SunPower®, an American company with a 25-plus year history of manufacturing the most efficient and most widely used solar panels on the market today.

SunPower® is a solar panel manufacturer and not a traditional leasing or marketing entity that needs to purchase their solar panels from elsewhere.

SunPower® stands behind their solar module quality, and because they are utilizing their own modules in the solar lease, the consumer gets the best possible pricing for the lease, either monthly or prepaid, in Arizona today.

All of Solar Topps solar installations are completed in-house, without any outside subcontractors.

Solar Topps is a Premier SunPower® Dealer focused solely on solar electric installations with a continued goal to provide the very best in solar electric products, installations and customer service in Arizona.

Residential solar incentives have been constantly changing throughout the year and as solar installations are booming across Arizona, one thing has been a constant … the ever-changing solar incentives.

Unisource Solar Incentives Drop Off Yet Again

Unisource customers have seen their solar incentives decrease by 50 percent since January due to the tremendous popularity of solar, specifically solar lease programs in the areas served by UNS.

Rebates dropped down to $0.50 per watt in the past week and are expected to run out for the year sometime in the next month.

As these incentives drop, the price of solar increases concurrently.

Solar incentive changes are happening all over the world as seen in this video below.

SRP Returns With New Incentive Funding

SRP ran out of solar incentive funding in early March, but as their new fiscal year begins, they have returned with a rebate, although lower than their previous rebate of $0.60 a watt.

The new incentive will provide up to $2,500 that can be used towards a purchase or assigned towards a third party in the case of a solar lease.

Due to the popularity of the previous incentives, the current levels are not expected to last for a very long time.

APS Remains Consistent Although Levels Are Dwindling

APS is currently at $0.55 a watt. Although, a decrease is definitely not far off in the future.

The program has once again been tremendously popular as progressively more APS customers make the decision to go solar through lease or purchase options.

As residential solar incentives change, so does the overall cost of residential solar … as incentives decrease, the cost will only go up.

The best solution is to contact a Solar Topps solar consultant who will advise you on current rebate levels and what actions must be taken to reserve your rebate – and lock in your solar pricing at the highest level possible.

Solar power has received its call up to the big leagues.

With the issue of energy efficiency and reducing long-term energy costs, a major focus of sports organizations all over the spectrum, more and more pro teams are making the move to solar power.

Swinging for the fences in Kansas City

The Kansas City Royals baseball organization completed the largest in-stadium solar array this past year.

They will have 120 solar modules located at opposite ends of Kauffmann Field.

The Royals organization has declared their interest in improving long-term energy efficiency and being a more environmentally friendly business partner.

Fans will be able to monitor the new solar system’s output on an interactive display.

The Royals’ new solar panel display will be on display, front and center at this year’s upcoming MLB All Star Game which takes place on July 10th.

Suns And APS’s New Solar Collaboration A Slam Dunk

The Phoenix Suns are bringing the heat with a new 227 kilowatt system at US Airways Center.

The solar project developed in conjunction with APS will feature over 900 solar panels installed on the top of the US Airways Center garage. The project which has been in development since 2008 will produce almost 400,000 kilowatt hours a year and provide clean, renewable power for decades to come.

Jets Score Big With Solar Array On Practice Facility

The NFL’s New York Jets have also jumped on board the solar bandwagon with a 3,000 solar module, 750 kilowatt solar system on the rooftop of their practice facility in New Jersey.

The power purchase agreement that the Jets signed for the solar array will allow them to utilize energy produced from the solar power at a lower rate than what they would be paying for traditional power. Additionally, the system will offset over 500 tons of carbon on an annual basis.

The Jets organization is proving to be just as green as the uniforms that the team wears out on the field.

Solar Is Heating Up The Ice At The Pepsi Center

The Colorado Avalanche franchise of the NHL has also gone solar at Denver’s Pepsi Center (shared with the NBA’s Denver Nuggets) featuring a 52 module system that helps provide power to the Blue Sky Grill that is located inside the arena.

These are just a few examples of various sporting teams that are making the move to become more energy efficient with solar power today and into the future.

Other organizations such as the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Washington Redskins, the Cleveland Indians, the Seattle Seahawks and many more are all doing their part to help reduce their overall energy-use and do their part in protecting our environment.

Solar has become a major buzz word of sorts these days. Many people are talking about solar power, many solar installations are going up, nationwide, statewide, down the street, and maybe even next door to you.

Determining whether or not a solar electric installation would be appropriate for your home can be very straightforward, but occasionally complicated.

There are a number of factors to look at for a residential solar application and these can include your overall lifestyle, the size of your electric bill, the orientation and energy efficiency of your home. Here we’ll cover a few simple basic identifiers of how well home solar panels would benefit you.

Home Orientation Solar Installation Factor

Solar can be installed in any direction but north.

Commonly, people assume that homes must have a south-facing orientation, but both east and west facing roof spaces can be utilized.

Because we are in Arizona and have an abundance (possibly an overabundance depending on whom you ask) of sunshine, the difference in output among the various orientations is greatly reduced compared to a place like say, New Jersey or Seattle.

South is going to give the greatest production, followed by a western orientation, and then lastly, eastern orientation.

North can never be utilized for home solar panel installation, but if that is your only possible option, there are mounting systems utilized to get around this obstacle.

Lifestyle Factor For Solar Installation

Are you a permanent year-round resident of Arizona or a Snowbird that spends 6 months or less in our great state?

For those who are part-timers, your system can be sized significantly smaller than that of someone who is a full-time resident and still can allow you to eliminate most of your electric bill as your reduced sized system will be generating energy credits from your utility provider during those slightly warm months that you spend off in a far cooler climate.

Cost of Electricity

Solar is not for everyone. Generally the bigger your electric bill gets, the more sense a residential solar installation will make for you. Based on your energy-use profile, a solar electric system starts making sense at about $90 a month average and the numbers continue to look better the higher your bill goes. For those who are routinely paying $250 a month or more on average, there are incredible savings that can be attained, even through a zero-down solar lease which requires no initial investment.

Home Energy Efficiency Plays A Role In Choosing Solar

The overall efficiency of your home is something else to consider when looking at the feasibility of installing a solar electric system.

Those 30-year windows that hold out nothing but wild animals … when you change those out, there will be a noticeable decrease in your cost of electricity. The same applies to changing out your creaking and groaning air-conditioner unit on its last legs, or completing that upgrade of your existing attic insulation that has been settling since the Bee Gee’s were topping the music charts. These are things that should be discussed with your solar energy consultant.

There is no advantage to over-sizing a solar electric system, and upgrades planned in the near future can absolutely be accounted for when putting together a home solar panel quote.

There are a lot of factors that come into play when designing an appropriate home solar panel system and as such, it makes sense to sit down with a Solar Topps professional solar consultant who can help devise a system just the right size for your home and lifestyle.

To find out more about installing a solar power system on your home, you can get a free solar quote by filling out the form after clicking on the “Solar Quote” link found at the top of any page on our site.

Installing a solar power array is one of the smartest decisions a residential homeowner or commercial building owner in Arizona will ever make.

During the summertime, utility companies charge a very high price for on-peak demand electricity, which can be as high as $0.19 cents per kWh.

Instead of buying expensive power from the electric company, a solar electric system allows you to create your own clean, free solar electricity to power your air conditioner, pool pumps and other appliances that use a lot of electricity during the day when electricity prices are expensive.

The additional benefit of solar power panels is the shade they produce for your rooftop during the hottest part of the day.

A Solar Electric System Will Save You Money

You will start saving money the very first day your solar panels begin producing free electricity.

If you install enough solar panels on your rooftop to completely offset your electricity bill, every time the utility company raises the price for electricity, it will not matter, because your solar electric system will be producing its own electricity. You actually save more money every time your utility company raises prices.

How Much Money You Actually Save With A Residential Solar Electric System?

The average electric utility rate increase per year is around three percent. That means in only ten years, a $1,000 yearly electric bill will increase to $1,790. In 15 years, the same bill will turn into a $2,396 per year electric bill.

Customers that offset their total electric bill with solar power usually only pay a small connection fee of around $25 per month to stay connected to the grid. Some pay as little as $8 per month for the connection.

Property Value Increases With A Solar Power Array

As a result of installing your own solar electric system, your home or commercial building will be worth more money, because it produces its own free solar electricity. It will also provide your home or business with a competitive edge. In just ten year’s time after installing a solar electric system, you will be paying 50 percent less for electricity than the person across street, who may not have made the smart decision to install solar.

Want to find out how much you will save with a solar power system on your rooftop? Solar Topps has developed a very simple solar quote form offering a free solar quote.

Fill out the solar quote form and Solar Topps will send you a solar price quote that will show you how much a solar system will cost, how much solar tax credit incentives and utility solar rebates are available and how much money your solar power array will save you over the next 25 years.

Solar Topps’ warehouse offers proof that residential solar electric system installations are booming in Arizona right now with it’s latest shipment of SunPower solar inverters.

Dozens of homeowners all over the state of Arizona are currently scheduled to have a solar electric system installed by Solar Topps.

Solar Topps project coordinator checks over the latest batch of SunPower solar inverters delivered to our warehouse this morning.

There is no end in sight as shipments of inverters and solar panels keep rolling in.

What Is A Solar Inverter?

A solar Inverter is the wall mounted unit that converts direct current (DC) power that solar panels create, to alternating current (AC) power that your home needs.

Inverters can be mounted either on the exterior of your home next to the electric meter or on an inside wall close to where the electric meter is mounted.
